Cruel fates

She said she couldn’t imagine a crueler fate
To be bound by walls and hours
Defiantly naive, intelligently foolish
In reality, she was just lost in time
She says she asks too many why’s to ever doubt herself
What a brazen irony of I must say myself
We chose to believe the ridiculous notion
That we were getting younger by the hour
That love was that bubbling potion
And our hearts vessels for the elixir
Our fates quite comical
Sealed in a poetic receptacle
Doomed from the start, doomed till the end
If only the gods had other ideas beneath their pens
