On the wings of freedom

Freedom never seems important until it’s yanked from your hands
Until then we just call it life, basic as the air in your lungs
Then we realise that breathing just isn’t worth it if the air isn’t open
And steel is but a burden when those chains aren’t broken

Then we understand why it holds so much power on the tongues of revolutionaries
Why a sea would split itself apart at the very presence of Moses
What’s physics to the testament of the human spirit?
For that two syllable word, mountains have fallen

Freedom! Freedom! Be free as the river
Freedom! Freedom! They say fight for your brothers
For what use are wings without a sky to soar
But please don’t lead my people astray in the name of a word so pure
